Paraguay authority withdraws Bollgard I approval

The Paraguayan authorities have issued a clarification warning that the authorities’ approval of Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant Bollgard I cotton (MON531) is incomplete. Paraguay’s Ministry of Agriculture granted apparent authorisation of Bollgard I cotton last year ( Agrow No 627, p 25). However, the plant health and seed quality service, the Senave, issued a “clarification” this month that only three of the five requirements for entering the product in its register of commercially approved products had been fulfilled. “Until all requirements are met, the Senave cannot register Bollgard I cotton in the RNCC [national commercial cultivar register],” it notes.
