Brazil authorities link up on agchem residue monitoring

Brazilian state authorities are teaming up with national inspectors on future surveys of pesticide residues in foods. The national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, wants to stimulate co-operation between its regional offices and the state councils on food and nutrition safety. “The national council on food safety has aided the Anvisa’s work and uses the findings of its Para [national pesticide residue analysis in foods programme] surveys as an indicator of human rights on safe food,” Anvisa general manager Luiz Claudio Meirelles told a meeting of leaders from the national council on food safety and nutrition, the Consea.
