German container collection up 7% in 2011

The collection of empty pesticide containers in Germany went up by 6.7% in 2011 to 2,560 tonnes, reports the German agrochemical industry association, the IVA. That represented around 68% of total containers collected, up slightly from 67% in 2010 ( Agrow No 615, p 14). Some 80% of the recalled plastic containers were directed to mechanical recycling. The association’s container collection scheme, the PAMIRA, is a joint initiative of the crop protection industry and distributors. Over 70,000 farmers use the scheme, the IVA says.
