Brazil recyclers hailed at Rio summit
The Brazilian pesticide container recycling industry has been hailed as an example of success at the UN sustainable development conference, the Rio+20, Brazilian agribusiness network, Sou Agro reports. Brazil collects and/or recycles almost 95% of used pesticide containers, Brazilian pesticide container disposal organisation, the inpEV, told the summit. The majority of containers are recycled. The inpEV has 420 collection points and includes the work of 91 associate companies. Last year, it collected a record of over 35,000 tonnes of such containers ( Agrow No 633, p 16). It set up Campo Limpo in 2008 with public/private partners to turn old containers into new ones ( Agrow No 544, p 20).
