China's agchem production up 26% in May
China's pesticide manufacturing continued apace in May of this year. Agrochemical production increased by 25.6% when compared with the same month last year, reaching some 305,074 tonnes, reports the China Crop Protection Industry Association. Pesticide production slipped 6% month-on-month. The country manufactured some 1.2 million tonnes of chemical pesticides in the first four months of the year, an increase of 23.7% on the same period last year ( Agrow No 641, p 18). China's leading region in terms of agrochemical production in May was the northern province of Shandong, which saw a huge 87.7% increase over last year at 88,891 tonnes. Jiangsu province, historically China's pesticide manufacturing powerhouse, was close behind with 88,031 tonnes (+18.2%). In third place, but far behind, was Zhejiang province, with 25,158 tonnes (-8.3%).
