France recycled 77% packs in 2011
Some 77% of empty pesticide packs were collected in France in 2011 by the industry, says the French agrochemical industry association, the UIPP. That equates to a rise of four percentage points from the previous year’s 73% ( Agrow No 619, p 10). The collection is part of the UIPP’s recycling initiative, Adivalor, which was started in 2001. The disposal of obsolete pesticides is another target of the initiative. Over 10,000 tonnes of unused pesticides have been eliminated since then. Adivalor is funded by 42 crop protection companies. Over 1,000 distributors, co-operatives and wholesalers undertake to perform collections, with around 250,000 farmers participating.
