Uruguay to approve GM soy and maize
Uruguayan authorities have granted approval for genetically modified maize and soybeans. The Ministry of Agriculture has opened a comment period for its commercial authorisations for Monsanto’s glyphosate–tolerant and insect-resistant Intacta RR2 Pro soybeans (MON89788xMON87701). It expresses the BtCry1Ac toxin for the control of lepidopteran pests. The MON87701 trait was developed specifically for South America. The Ministry has also approved Dow AgroSciences’ insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant PowerCore maize (MON89034xTC1507xT25xNK603), and its insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Herculex I Roundup Ready 2 maize (TC1507xNK603), and Syngenta’s glyphosate-tolerant and insect-resistant Viptera 3110 maize (GA21xBt11xMIR162).
