US EPA turns down clothianidin suspension
The US EPA has denied a petition seeking the emergency suspension of the neonicotinoid insecticide, clothianidin, based on imminent hazard. However, it is opening a 60-day comment period on the petition’s request for cancellation of clothianidin registrations. US environmentalist and beekeeping groups filed the petition in March. Last month, the coalition, led by Pesticide Action Network of North America, submitted over 250,000 requests for the immediate suspension of the insecticide ( Agrow No 644, p 13).
