Australia tackles problem trifluralin batch
A “problematic batch” of the herbicide, trifluralin, on sale in Western Australia is to be recalled and returned to its manufacturer in China. An investigation by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority found that the product was registered but formulated with an unknown solvent. The batch has been under investigation since March following reports that it was making farmers “ill or nauseous” ( Agrow No 644, p 18). “We are yet to confirm whether or not there are problems with any other trifluralin products and our investigations are continuing,” says APVMA compliance manager Dr Jan Klaver.
