Brazil to raise biopesticides to 10% of production
The Brazilian authorities are stepping up their incentives for farmers to adopt biological pest control products. The Ministry of Agriculture has set a 2015 target for biological products to account for 10% of all pesticides produced in Brazil. There has been a 75% increase in the number of brands of such products, including pheromones, for use on crops in Brazil from 41 to 75, it notes. The number of all pesticides on the market totals 1,537. The Ministry is giving priority to the registration of biological products, its pesticide office co-ordinator, Luis Eduardo Rangel, reiterates.
