MBI files for patent on bionematicide
The US biopesticide company, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI - Davis, California), has filed a patent application on a bionematicide discovery. The application covers a new species of bacteria from a known genus that kills plant parasitic nematodes. It also covers nematicidal compounds produced during the fermentation process, including some with novel chemical structures. Others are known, but not previously credited with nematicidal properties, MBI notes.
