China's six-month agchem production up 22%

China increased its manufacturing of chemical pesticides by 21.7% to a total 1.7 million tonnes in the first half of 2012 compared with the same period last year, according to figures from China's National Bureau of Statistics, published by the China Crop Protection Industry Association. Herbicides, the largest category, also saw the greatest year-on-year increase, with production up 36.4% to 788,000 tonnes. Insecticide output dropped slightly, down 0.8% to 395,000 tonnes, while fungicide production decreased by 11.8% to 73,000 tonnes. China produced a total of 2.6 million tonnes of pesticides in 2011, an increase of 21.4% on the previous year ( Agrow No 637, p 25). Production in June alone rose by 14.2% year-on-year to 323,858 tonnes.
