Brazil ups frequency of agchem inspections
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has intensified inspections of pesticide manufacturers. In 2011, it carried out 1,202 inspections including those of pesticide products and of manufacturers’ production and formulation plants, and their efficacy testing facilities. The Ministry aims to complete 1,482 inspections this year. The number of visits from inspectors has been rising from the 415 carried out in 2005. The Ministry’s pesticide inspections office chief Álvaro Inácio says that the notable rise in the application of pesticides in Brazil has motivated the increasing actions of its office. “Government is training more inspectors, and improving inspection procedures,” he says.
