China's six-month glyphosate production booms
China manufactured a total of 203,365.5 tonnes of the herbicide, glyphosate, in the first six months of 2012, almost as much as for the whole of last year, reports the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA). Production was boosted by promising sales and rising prices of the active ingredient. Glyphosate production in June increased by 60.5% over the previous month to 50,565.5 tonnes. China manufactured 231,700 tonnes of glyphosate throughout all of 2011, and annual sales of the herbicide accounted for 88% of total herbicide production for the year ( Agrow No 634, p 17). The CCPIA's monthly figures are based on statistics from “major domestic producers”.
