Australia looks at neonicotinoids and bees

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is to investigate potential risks of neonicotinoid insecticides to bees. The move follows anxiety among Australian beekeepers over concerns raised in the US and Europe over the impact of the insecticides on bees and other pollinators. Of particular interest is whether neonicotinoids have sub-lethal effects on bees, which may reduce their ability to pollinate plants and produce honey, the Authority notes.
