Farmers call for improved input supplies in EU
The European farmer and co-operative group, Copa-Cogeca, has called for improvements in supplies of agrochemicals, seed and crop varieties to help farmers tackle difficult climate conditions. Oilseed crop production was hit earlier in the year by frost and drought, and then came under threat from low temperatures and insect attacks, says the group in its latest crop update issued in July. It calls for more research on crop breeding and agrochemicals. “Farmers need a broad choice to grow their crops in the right conditions, with a wide range of plant protection products at their disposal,” it says.
