Funds provided for EU studies on bee losses
The European Commission has confirmed the distribution of funds to 17 EU member states to research the reasons for the loss of honeybee colonies. Funds totalling €3.3 million ($4 million) will support 70% of costs. The surveillance studies will cover 150-396 apiaries per country until June 30th 2013, with final results due by October 31st 2013. The work aims to fill an identified data gap on the importance of several suggested factors, including pesticides ( Agrow No 641, p 9).
