US to OK Valent's new Bt biopesticides

The US EPA has proposed the approval of two bioinsecticides from Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent BioSciences based on Bt subsp kurstaki strain VBTS-2546, which is a new active ingredient. The Bt strain has the same genes (cry1Aa, cry1Ab, cry1Ac, cry2Aa, cry2Ab, cry1Ia and vip3Aa) as strain HD-1, which is synonymous with strain ABTS-351 in Valent’s Dipel products, the EPA notes. The new product code-named VBC-60236 Biological Insecticide Dry Flowable is intended for use on a range of crops including fruit, vegetables, arable crops and ornamentals. Foray 2WG is for the control of lepidopteran pests in trees and forests.
