Uruguay implements agchem use register
The Uruguayan Ministry of Agriculture has issued rules on recording application of pesticide products to facilitate analysis of pesticide use in the country. All companies and persons who apply pesticides through third parties will have to register the use online, noting type and quantity of application, of what products, and of the area treated. The rules cover all types of applications from “aerial spraying to land-based applications, of methyl bromide on wooden crates, to fumigations of silos, sheds ships etc”. The Ministry wants to generate a database to analyse the geographical distribution and concentration of different types of products and their impact on the environment. Its directorate general of agricultural services, the DGSA, issued a manual for companies some two months ago.
