US approval for DuPont's Instigate
DuPont has received US EPA approval for a new maize herbicide based on established active ingredients. Instigate (rimsulfuron 4.2% + mesotrione 41.7%) is for use pre-planting to early emergence in the northern and eastern Corn Belt. It provides burn-down and residual control of grass and broadleaf weeds across a wide application window, DuPont points out. The herbicide includes a “unique” dry formulation of mesotrione, it adds. Instigate can be used at 5.3-7 oz/acre (0.4-0.5 kg/ha) pre-emergence or 5.3-5.4 oz/acre early post-emergence. It can be tank-mixed with most standard pre-emergence maize herbicides, including atrazine, glyphosate and paraquat.
