EU Ministers clear two biocide approvals
EU Ministers have cleared European Commission proposals to approve two pesticide active ingredients for non-crop use. Hydrogen cyanide is for use as an insecticide/acaricide, rodenticide and wood preservative. It would be authorised for professional use only, with specific requirements on safe operational procedures during fumigation and venting to protect operators and bystanders. The other biocide is cis-tricos-9-ene, for repellent/attractant use. Specific requirements would apply if use led to residues in food or feed, to ensure that maximum residue levels are established and not exceeded. The ais were evaluated under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8).
