BASF hails Engenia weed control in soybeans
BASF’s new dicamba formulation, Engenia, showed effective control of key broadleaf weeds in more than 300 US soybean field trials in 2011 and 2012, the company reports. The herbicide controlled glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth and waterhemp (both Amaranthus spp), marestail ( Conyza canadensis) and ragweed ( Ambrosia spp). BASF plans to introduce Engenia in the US in 2014, in line with Monsanto’s planned introduction of genetically modified dicamba-tolerant soybeans ( Agrow No 638, p 27). It expects to expand Engenia use to cotton in 2015 after the commercialisation of dicamba-tolerant cotton.
