US to OK new AgraQuest biofungicide strain
The US EPA proposes to register US biopesticide company AgraQuest’s biofungicide, Serenade Soil DPZ ( Bacillus subtilis strain QST 713 variant Soil), as a product based on a new active ingredient. It is for use as a soil drench or in-furrow spray in field and greenhouse applications and for turf and home garden use. The original B subtilis strain QST 713 was registered as Serenade in 2000 ( Agrow No 355, p 24). AgraQuest introduced that strain in Serenade Soil in 2010 ( Agrow No 584, p 19). The new strain is said to be stable and not to revert to the parent strain over multiple generations. Bayer CropScience acquired AgraQuest in August ( Agrow No 646, p 2).
