Arcadia to develop heat-tolerant wheat
US agricultural technology company Arcadia Biosciences (Davis, California) has joined with the Mexico City-based International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to develop heat-tolerant wheat varieties. They use a range of classical breeding and modern molecular biology tools. The CIMMYT will receive non-exclusive rights in “developing countries” to Arcadia’s heat tolerance technology developed under this agreement, and Arcadia will retain exclusive commercial rights in the developed world. The programme funding includes a $3.8 million grant from the USAID.
