EU advice on evaluation of microbials
Two working documents relating to the evaluation of microbial pesticides have been endorsed by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. They are based on procedures developed by the OECD to encourage harmonisation in risk assessments for micro-organisms. The guidance is not mandatory, but it is intended that EU member states, the European Food Safety Authority and industry start using it to gain experience, and apply it to applications submitted from July 1st 2013 onwards. The EU agrochemical registration Directive (1107/2009) already contains separate data requirements for chemical active ingredients and micro-organisms.
