Panama approves GM maize for planting
Panama has granted “limited” commercial approval for several hybrids of DuPont seed subsidiary DuPont Pioneer’s genetically modified insect-resistant Herculex I (DAS1507) maize. They are for above-ground insect control in Panama, the company says. DuPont Pioneer is working with teams in the country to “clarify the biosafety and stewardship requirements” before launching the products, the company told Agrow. Among the reported hybrids to be approved were ones containing insect-resistant and glyphosate-tolerant Herculex Roundup Ready 2 (DAS1507xNK603) maize. Herculex I was developed jointly with Dow AgroSciences.
