Canada mulls Monsanto's dicamba-tolerant cotton
The Canadian authorities have notified receipt of an application from Monsanto to approve genetically modified MON88701 cotton with tolerance to the herbicides, dicamba and glufosinate-ammonium. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is reviewing use of the cotton for feed, while Health Canada is assessing food use. Monsanto plans to stack MON88701 with its insect-resistant and glyphosate-tolerant Genuity Bollgard II Roundup Ready cotton (MON15985xMON1445) as Bollgard II RR Xtend with LibertyLink cotton ( Agrow No 635, p 20). The Canadian application for MON88701 is open to public comment until December 28th.
