New Zealand to phase out 20 insecticides

The New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has proposed the cancellation or phase-out of some 20 organophosphate (OP) and carbamate insecticides because of concerns over risks to human health and the environment. Some would have approvals revoked within six months of decisions being finalised, while others could be phased out over a period of up to ten years. The EPA outlined the scope of the reassessment, which originally covered 30 active ingredients, last year ( Agrow No 627, p 24).
