EFSA safety clearance for MON87705 soybeans
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that the import and use in food and feed of Monsanto’s genetically modified MON87705 soybeans would not raise any safety concerns regarding health or the environment. The soybeans are tolerant to the herbicide, glyphosate, and produce higher levels of oleic acid and lower amounts of certain saturated fats. They already hold approvals in the US, Canada and Australasia, and will be marketed as Vistive Gold ( Agrow passim). The EFSA’s opinion will go forward for consideration by the European Commission and EU member states.
