EU traders target fungicide advice for mycotoxins
In 94% of cases, agricultural merchants recommend the use of specific fungicides when advising farmers how to prevent the formation of mycotoxins in cereals, reveals a survey by European grain trading association Coceral. In the vast majority of cases (93%), merchants also recommend the use of specific Fusarium spp-resistant seed varieties. In only 40% of cases is the advice limited to general agricultural practices. In total, 98% of merchants provide advice to farmers on measures to minimise the risk of mycotoxin formation. The biannual survey had 34 responses from traders handling a total of 41.5 million tonnes of grain.
