MEPs delay vote on CAP proposals

Members of the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee have postponed their vote on the proposed reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) until January. In discussions this summer, the Committee had been seeking changes to proposed “greening” measures that have been criticised for their possible impact on crop production ( Agrow No 647, p 10). However, the MEPs say that ongoing delays in negotiations about the overall EU budget for 2014-20 mean that they cannot decide on the CAP reform unless they know “how much money will be available for it”.
