Italy's agchem sales and use controls lacking

Although Italy has controls in place on the marketing of pesticide products, their implementation suffers from shortcomings that undermine the system’s effectiveness, the European Commission’s Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) has found. The country had not yet implemented the EU sustainable use of pesticides Directive (128/2009) at the time of the FVO study in February this year, but an EU-compliant control system was in place. There had been progress on two laboratories used for analysis since the previous report in 2007 ( Agrow No 537, p 13), the FVO notes. However, significant deficiencies persisted.
