US EPA to OK Nichino's pyrifluquinazon
The US EPA has proposed the registration of Nihon Nohayaku subsidiary Nichino America’s insecticide, pyrifluquinazon, as a new active ingredient. The company applied to register the insecticide as Pyrifluquinazon 20 SC (pyrifluquinazon 216 g/litre) for the control of thrips, aphids and scales on greenhouse ornamentals. It acts as an insect behaviour modifier by reducing insect feeding. The EPA notified receipt of the application earlier this year ( Agrow No 643, p 20). Nihon Nohyaku introduced the ai, as Colt, in Japan in December 2010. It was jointly developed with Kumiai Chemical ( Agrow No 642, p 6). The EPA decision is open to public comment until December 16th.
