EFSA to enhance applications helpdesk
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is to enhance its applications helpdesk unit after a successful first year. The unit was launched in November last year and provides information and support for applicants, EU member states and other interested parties ( Agrow No 628, p 13). It has responded to “hundreds” of queries related to products evaluated by the EFSA, including agrochemicals and genetically modified crops. By the end of 2012, four “information sessions on applications” will have been held and a further seven are planned for next year. The EFSA plans to create a specialised office within the unit to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized enterprises. It is also carrying out a feasibility study to assess how applicants could submit dossiers online. In addition, a survey next year will ask stakeholders to suggest other services.
