Monsanto seeks US EUP for GM maize lines
The US EPA has notified receipt of an application from Monsanto for an experimental use permit (EUP) to test genetically modified maize lines with resistance to corn rootworms ( Diabrotica virgifera) and lepidopteran pests. Events MON87410 and MON87411 express a double-stranded RNA transcript suppression cassette with an inverted repeat sequence, Dv49, from D virgifera. Monsanto plans to test the events in combination with various Bt toxins including Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab2, Vip3Aa20, Cry3Bb1, Cry34Ab1/Cry35Ab1 and eCry3.1Ab. The two-year EUP would cover 22 states and Puerto Rico. The application is open to comment until December 21st.
