Brazil agchem authorities undertake corruption audit

The Brazilian pesticide regulatory authorities have issued a joint response to recent corruption complaints and the registered pesticide products that were found to contain irregularities. Those are the Ministry of Agriculture, which regulates on agronomic factors in the registration process, the environmental agency, the Ibama (ecotoxicology), and the national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa (toxicology). The general manager of the Anvisa’s, toxicology board GGTOX, Luiz Claudio Meirelles, was recently fired for delaying his reporting of suspected irregularities in the registration of several pesticides ( Agrow No 653, p 22).
