US fumigant label changes take effect

The second phase of US product label changes for five soil fumigants came into effect this month. The amended labels incorporate the final phase of risk mitigation measures required by the EPA’s 2009 re-registration eligibility decision for methyl bromide, chloropicrin, metam sodium/potassium and dazomet ( Agrow No 569, p 19). The measures include buffer zones and posting, emergency response measures, applicator training, fumigant management plans, and notification of state agencies. The first phase of label changes was approved in 2010.
