Canada mulls Bayer/Syngenta GM soybeans
The Canadian authorities have notified receipt of an application from Bayer CropScience and Syngenta to approve genetically modified herbicide-tolerant SYHT0H2 soybeans. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada are reviewing the application for commercial planting and food and feed use. The soybeans have been modified for tolerance to hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor herbicides and glufosinate-ammonium. Bayer and Syngenta agreed to co-develop HPPD-tolerant soybeans in 2011 ( Agrow No 614, p 2). The Canadian application is open to public comment until February 5th 2013.
