US EPA mulls fumigant allocation

The US EPA proposes to allocate some 562.3 tonnes of the fumigant, methyl bromide, for critical uses in 2013. That is around half of the 1,023 tonnes allocated in 2012 ( Agrow No 641, p 14). That was about half of the 2011 allowance ( Agrow No 627, p 16). Most uses of methyl bromide were phased out in developed countries in 2005. The 2013 allocation for critical uses would be equivalent to 2.2% of the 1991 methyl bromide consumption baseline of 25,528.3 tonnes, the EPA notes.
