Death after Chinese pesticide plant explosion

An explosion at a pesticide plant owned by Chinese company Nantong Jiangshan Agrochemical and Chemical has resulted in one fatality and injured three workers, the company says. The explosion occurred in the facility's trimethyl ester production area. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The three injured workers suffered from burns and are undergoing hospital treatment. One storage tank was destroyed and nearby equipment was damaged in the incident, although the company is still calculating exact losses. The production area at the centre of the explosion was not operational at the time, but production of the company's other products has not been affected, Nantong Jiangshan reports. An explosion at a pesticide plant in Hebei province early last year resulted in 17 fatalities and injured 46 people ( Agrow No 635, p 16).
