VIB creates agbiotech spin-off
Belgian research institute VIB (Ghent) has created an agricultural biotechnology spin-off company, AgroSavfe. A group of investors including VIB have put €5 million ($6.6 million) into the start-up, which will have nine employees and be based in Ghent. The new company aims to develop technology for sustainable crop protection through research and development of innovative formulations using its Agrobody technology, which is based on fragments from camel antibodies. Crop protection products with Agrobodies as formulation agents can be used at lower rates or have longer-lasting effects without repeat applications, the company says. “The product development and commercialisation will occur either internally or in collaboration with partners,” says AgroSavfe chief executive officer Marnix Peferoen.
