Syngenta expands Brazil maize facility
Syngenta is to quadruple its maize seed production capacity at its Brazil facility in Formosa. The company is investing some $77 million to raise capacity to 1.6 million bags annually by 2015. Syngenta cites expectations of a doubling of Brazilian maize production over the next seven years, driven by feed demand for pigs and poultry with the national maize market reaching $2,700 million by 2020. The Formosa facility is located at the heart of 110,000 ha of maize-growing country, the climate of which supports two planting seasons. It is close to the capital, Brasilia.
