South Korea OKs Syngenta maize traits
Syngenta has received import approval from the South Korean authorities for its genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Agrisure Viptera 3110 and 3220 maize stacks. They provide control of above-ground lepidopteran pests such as European corn borers ( Ostrinia nubilalis) and tolerance to the herbicides, glyphosate and glufosinate-ammonium. Viptera 3110 combines MIR162 ( Bt Vip3A) and Bt11 (Cry1Ab), while Viptera 3220 combines MIR162, Bt11 and Dow AgroSciences/DuPont’s Herculex 1 (Cry 1F). The trait stacks have been approved for cultivation in the US and Canada and have import approvals in the Philippines, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and Taiwan.
