US EPA amends human testing rules
The US EPA has amended its rules governing studies involving intentional exposure of human subjects to pesticides. The amendments are essentially identical to those proposed in February 2011 ( Agrow No 609, p 13). They broaden the applicability of the rules and specifically ban studies on subjects who cannot consent for themselves. The amendments were proposed following the 2010 settlement of a lawsuit over the EPA’s 2006 regulations ( Agrow No 594, p 16).
