EU to amend approval conditions for two ais
Proposals to add certain conditions to the EU approvals of two active ingredients have been cleared by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. The ais are the plant growth regulator, ethylene, and the disinfectant, sodium hypochlorite. They gained EU approval in 2008 as part of a faster procedure for low-risk substances ( Agrow No 560, p 8). This allowed approval to be granted before the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) had completed its peer review. At the time, no specific risk mitigation conditions were attached, pending the EFSA’s submission of its review.
