Brazil soy grower group calls on Monsanto to drop offer

Major Brazilian soybean grower group the CNA has called for Monsanto’s offer to soybean growers for use of its genetically modified soybean technology to be dropped and replaced with a “new document [offer] that respects previous agreements”. Monsanto recently sealed deals with several soybean grower groups for payment for use of its GM glyphosate-tolerant and insect-resistant Intacta RR2 Pro (MON87701xMON89788) soybeans ( Agrow No 658, p 2). That included freeing participating farmers from paying royalties on first-generation Roundup Ready soybeans for this and next season, and waiving all potential legal claims for payments previously made for this first-generation technology.
