Argentine court halts Monsanto facility
An Argentine court has issued an injunction suspending the construction of Monsanto’s authorised maize drying facility near the city of Cordoba, newspaper Buenos Aires Herald reports. The Argentine Law Foundation Club won the injunction on the precautionary principle covering environmental concerns and overturning a January ruling by another court. Monsanto is likely to appeal, the newspaper adds. The 27 ha plant was due to be opened in December, following a Peso 1,600 million ($318 million) investment.
