EU allows more national measures on difenacoum
The European Commission has allowed Germany to impose stricter conditions on more non-crop rodenticide products based on difenacoum. Germany would limit use to trained or licensed professional users only, even though such restrictions do not apply in the products’ first national approvals in the UK. The country had to justify its action because the two companies concerned, Italian company Zapi and the French subsidiary of Austrian company Kwizda, had applied to Germany for mutual recognition of the UK approvals. However, Germany failed to gain Commission clearance for excluding certain food uses.
