Brazil approved mainly biologicals in 2012
Almost three times as many biological as chemical pesticide branded products were approved last year in Brazil, the Ministry of Agriculture says. There are 88 biological products on the market compared with 41 in 2011, it adds. The registration of biological products is a government priority. The scheme that is promoted by the Ministry “seeks to widen the use of pesticides of this type and reduce the evaluation time for their approval”, co-ordinator general of the Ministry’s pesticide office, Álvaro Inácio, says. The approval process for a chemical pesticide can take up to five years, but a biological may be registered within 60 days, the Ministry notes.
