Switzerland to set up secure GM crop research site
Switzerland is setting up a protected research site at Reckenholz near Zurich for conducting field trails of genetically modified crops. The purpose of the 3 ha site is to prevent the spread of genetic material and the destruction of research through acts of vandalism. The federal agricultural office agency, Agroscope, which operates the site, will be responsible for technical security. The safety measures would include the establishment of a fence, observation and monitoring of the ongoing test plot, and the installation of an alarm system.
